William (Bill)'s Story
Y'all probably remember me as the guy who came and went, but I remember Wren and the friends I made there more than any of the other schools I attended. The school I went on to in New Mexico was so big we had to go to class in shifts! Whereas I actually got to play (a little) football at Wren, they had over 100 guys on the team at Highland and I never got on the field. I spent my senior year at Highland wishing I was at Wren...
One good thing that came out of moving to NM was meeting my lovely wife, Allyne. She was the 'girl next door'...literally! She was the best thing that ever happened to me. She deserved a medal for putting up with me all those years! I joined the Marines after school and Allyne and I were married in Dec. We got married at 2:30pm, Dec 27th and at 6:00am on the 28th I was 1000 miles away! What a way to start! We has 42 wonderful years together. She died early in 2012. Liver cancer.
We have a son and daughter, Sean and Shannon, and two wonderful granddaughters by my daughter, Kirsten and Haley. Love them all dearly.

he grunts, and then was able to transfer to the airwing. We were stationed in Memphis, Cherry Point, NC, Wisconsin and California. I spent some time overseas. We came back to SC because we wanted to raise our kids in this kind of area with traditional values.
I went to work for Michelin at the Sandy Springs plant. Enjoyed working there for 30 years, retired, and went to work for Schneider Electric (old Square D) in Seneca. Was laid off from Schneider about a month after Ally died, so I had about three years there. Now I work for St. Jude Medical in Liberty. We make defibulators and pacemakers. I presently work the weekend shift, nights. Kinda sucks as far as social life goes, but glad to have a job, and the pay is good. Good company and people, too.
Managed to get a degree at TCTC, then SWC.
Seems like I've spent most of my life working on old houses. The one we're in now is our 5th. We love the "patch" where we live now (see pictures), but I think my favorite was the 5200 sqft Queen Anne Victorian we restored in West Union. I wanted to turn the attic into an art studio so bad...hope to set one up in our barn eventually.
